New Year, New Adventure

Many of you already know me from years past, I've been fortunate enough to be able to teach many of your children already. This year I have the opportunity to teach your children Science and Social Studies. I look forward to the year ahead.

Please check the blog periodically for little updates of what the students are doing.

We have all begun our Social Studies Units. The grade 4 students are learning about the Middle Ages, and the lifestyle of people at that time. The children are really engaged in our talks about: kings and queens, castles, and battles between the French and English.

The grade 5 studies are learning about the first people in Canada, the indigenous people. We are learning about the lifestyles of each group, based on their location in Canada.

The grade 6 students have begun a unit learning about communities in Canada, past and present. We are currently looking at the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. We will be examining how immigrants have enriched our culture in Canada.

Valentine's Day

We will be celebrating Valentine's Day tomorrow. The students are encouraged to wear red, white, and pink. Also, please do not send food items to the school, as they are not allowed to be passed to students. If you wish to send a little gift, stickers and pencils  etc... would be a better idea. Thanks for your understanding in this matter.

New Units in Social Studies and Math

We are starting 2 new units in Math and Social Studies. We are learning to add and subtract with regrouping. This seems to be a difficult/complex idea for a lot of the students. Perhaps you can practice at home. Come up with different addition and subtraction stories, and come up with a solution together.

We have begun talking about traditions and celebrations in S.S. Today we have learned the difference between a tradition and a celebration. We will be learning about different celebrations celebrated around the world.

Penny Drive

We are still collecting money for Penny Drive. If you are able to donate, we would greatly appreciate it. The money is donated to the University of Windsor to give scholarships to students studying science/breast cancer research. The December goal is $1500. Every little bit helps. Merci!
