Science
We have begun our Science units today. The grade 2 students will be learning about the 3 different states of matter. We talked about solids and liquids today, and attributes of each. Maybe try classifying different objects found in your fridge.

We are learning about plants in grade 3. Today, we drew and discussed the different parts of a plant. They should be able to identify: the flower, the stem, the leaves, and the roots.

Social Studies- Grade 3
The grade 3 students are finishing up their Social Studies unit. They will have a quiz on Wednesday about the major industries in Ontario.

Social Studies Wrap-up
We are currently wrapping up our Social Studies units. The Grade 2 have been learning about symbols, and which symbols are used to represent Canada. The grade 3 students have been learning about the importance of water, and the major industries we have in Ontario. We have already discussed agriculture, mining, and forestry. They will begin their Science units in the next week. The grade 3 students should expect a quiz in the next week.
Our class will be responsible for the Ash Wednesday Mass on March 6. Please stay tuned for further details.

Book Fair
The Book Fair will be open next week, from Monday, February 11 to Thursday, February 14. Students will be able to purchase books in the morning or at lunch. It will also be open the night of Parent-Teacher Interviews.
Valentine's Day
Just a reminder...With Valentine's Day next week, please be aware that if you choose to send little treats/gifts for the class, the treats/gifts cannot net be edible. Thank you very much for cooperation in this matter!

Animal Research
In grade 2, we have been discussing the different animals that can be found in different regions of the world. The students have been given a little assignment to complete. They have chosen an animal, that was not found in the textbook, to do a little research on. They need to know where it lives, what climate it lives in, what it likes and some interesting facts about the animal. The assignment is due: Friday, February 8th

Plays
The grade 2 and 3 students will start working on a little French play called L'hiver. The play is a dialogue between 2 children about their likes and dislikes. The grade 3 students will also be working a an English play called, The Popsicle Man. It is based off their story the Gingerbread Man. The students will be bringing their plays home to read over their parts.

Social Studies
I decided to continue with Social Studies. In grade 2, we are learning about symbols, what they are. We are also learning about the various symbols countries (Kenya, Scotland, Peru, India, and Canada) have used on their flags and on their money.
In grade 3, we have been looking at the beginning of Ontario, while studying the First Nations, and the Early Settlers.
