Fundraising at St. André

As you already know, tomorrow will be our Terry Fox Run. The run will take place at 2:15 at the baseball diamonds. The children are asked to bring in a Twonie for Terry. The money will be donated to the Terry Fox Foundation.

The school is taking part in another charitable act. For the next few weeks, the school will be holding a Food Drive. the canned ans non perishable food items will then be donated to the St. Vincent de Paul Society. I appreciate you taking the time to consider donating to these worthy causes.
                                                     
                                                   

Some Important Dates

Tomorrow, September 25, is Franco-ontarien Day, to celebrate we are asking all students to wear Green and White tomorrow. We will also be having our Terry Fox Walk on Friday at Green Acres Park at 2:15 pm. All students are asked to wear Red and White on this day.

Also, I will be placing the book order on Friday, September 18. If you would like to place an order, please send it with your child by Friday. Merci!

Science

The grade 2 are currently studying a unit about the movement of air and water. we have discussed that air in motion is called the wind (le vent). We have also discussed some of the uses of the wind. We will be exploring the water cycle next week.The grade 3 students are studying a unit on soil. We have been discussing the materials that compose soil. We are currently talking about the particles found in soil.

          

Just a correction, Harvest Fresh money is due online by September 23, 2018.

A Few Reminders

I just wanted to remind you that Harvest Fresh orders are due online, Sept. 25. Also, there will be a Meet the Teacher Night tomorrow beginning at 5:00 pm. I look forward to meeting all that are able to attend.

I sent home book orders yesterday. The due date will be September 28th. You are able to pay by cash, cheque, or online. If you pay online, please be sure that your child bring the form to school, so that I am able to place the order. If you pay by cash, I just ask that you pay with exact change, as I won't be able to make change for you. Merci!

Lastly, the students are finishing up their Math units. They will be tested early next week.

Math-Patterning

I have had a nice week getting to know your children! In Math, both the grade twos and the grade threes are working on patterns. The grade 2 students are learning about what makes a pattern. We have learned about a core, and attributes (colour, size, shape, position, and orientation). They have been exploring, using manipulatives, how to create their own patterns.

The grade 3 students are currently working on number patterns. We have been discussing and exploring growing and shrinking patterns. We have also been working on writing the pattern rules for patterns that they have completed. We have also learned about patterns that appear in a table. We are learning how these can be useful in our lives.

Math homework will be sent home every night, even if the students have completed it in class. I am asking that you simply take a look at it together, if this is the case. Perhaps, you could come up with little fun activities to further practice a concept. Thank you for your assistance in this matter!

It would also be greatly appreciated if you could quickly sign the agendas each night.

Bonjour, je m'apple Mme Handsor. Let me introduce myself a little. I come from St. Anne's French Immersion where I taught for 7 years. I am excited to start this new journey with you, and your children!

A few housekeeping items: Agendas will cost $5.00 this year. Please be sure to send the money with your child as soon as possible. All students require a pair of indoor shoes that will be worn in the classroom, and during Gym class. Also, please send your supplies to school as soon as possible, regular classes will start tomorrow.
