Literary Pumpkin Assignment
To celebrate the beginning of fall and our love of reading, we will be creating Literary Pumpkins. The pumpkins are going to represent their favourite characters, in their favourite books. The project is easiest to do if students choose a main character, as there is a lot of information provided about the character. The decoration of the pumpkins will take place at home. Here are some guidelines to help you create your literary pumpkins:
Real pumpkins are to be painted or decorated with markers, NOT carved. NO HOLE PUNCHES -- PINS OR STAPLES, ETC. Real pumpkins begin to deteriorate immediately if they are punctured. Pumpkins must be no larger than a basketball. Artificial pumpkins are acceptable.
Acrylic paints or permanent markers work best. Watercolors tend to run. Yarn, construction paper, pipe cleaners, etc. may be used to decorate the pumpkins. Paste, glue or hot glue may also be used.
Carved pumpkins will not be accepted. Please include the name of the book and the book character the pumpkin represents. Students are encouraged to display the book they are illustrating along with their entry. Please make sure names are inside personal books.
There will also be an oral component to the assignment. The students will write a paragraph about their characters, to be presented orally to the class. The paragraph needs to be written in French. The paragraph should talk about the character they chose. Who is it? What book is he/she from? Why did they pick this character? What are some of the character’s traits? Please practice their oral presentation of their pumpkins at home. Things to focus on: projection of their voice, and speaking clearly.
Due Date: Friday, October 30th
*The pumpkins can be dropped off early, the week of October 26th. The pumpkins must be brought home/picked up no later than Monday, November 6.
